FAQ

Mon May 26, 2008, 3:04 AM
I am asked some things so very often and I really don't feel like answer the same things all the time. Questions over questions only asking the same things over and over again. So I decided I might do something like a FAQ to answer these questions all at once and be able to simply send the Link to those who ask.

~+~FAQ~+~
I. ~wigs~
Q: Where do you get your wigs?
A: I get them from ebay and invest lots of hours to style them. My preferred sellers are: [link] and [link]

Q: What products do you use?
A: Hairspray, a hairdryer, scissors and my hands. Yeah, I use normal hairspray first, because you can brush it out, if you do a mistake. Once I am satisfied with the styling I use got2b glued to fix the spikes and make them long-lasting.

Q: So how do you style it?
A: I started searching for tutorials and tips for weeks. I am not gonna give you everything, because it would be too much, really. I read so many things about spiking and dyeing a wig. So yeah, let's just say I got a lot of input. One tutorial was especially helpful, it's this one: [link]
So once I got an idea about how to do it, I started going through a lot of pictures, as well as game scenes and the opening and such. I got a clear picture of the hair before I got started. Throughout the whole process, I always have a picture of the 'hair' in front of me, so I can re-check things and place the spikes right. Another thing I do before I start, is parting the hair, so I have each spike on it's own. Like here: [link]
So let's talk about spiking. I start at the front when there are bangs. It's easier, I guess. I cut each spike when I am about to style it, what means not the whole wig at once. Spike after spike, so I get each one the right length. As I said already, first I use normal (strong) hairspray so I can simply brush out mistakes and do it again. I use a hairdryer on cold or low level to make the hairspray dry faster and it also will make it stickier. So while using the hairdryer wou will have to flatten each spike over and over again until it is dry. Makes it look a lot better. While styling, there will appear 'holes' in the wig, where you can see the netting. It happened for the 'back circle' in my Sora wig, too. So how can you get rid of it? You add additional hair. Well, this tutorial might help: [link]
You will have to invest a lot of time finishing your wig, but once you are done, and satisfied enjoy this look for about a minute. And then.. yeah we aren't finished yet. That's the bad thing about using normal hairspray. You won't be able to wear it like that for the spikes will split up. So you will have to use got2b glued and redo EVERY spike once more. But at least it will stick the spikes together and since you have the basic styling, you'll be done in about 15 minutes ^^ Sounds good doesn't it?

II. ~Keyblades~
Q: Where do you buy your keyblades?
A: I do them myself ^^

Q: So, what do you use and how do you do it?
A: It depends on the keyblade. Let's start with Sora's Kingdom Key and Kairi's Flower Power. I bought wooden sticks, something called foam board and air-drying modelling clay. So I cut the basics from the foam board and glue it to the wooden stick so it already get's the base shape of the keyblade. Once it is done, I put paper-mâché all over it to make it stronger. Let it dry (will take some hours) and test if everything is solid enough and doesn't break apart. Once this step is finished, I add all the details using the modelling clay, what will take a lot of time again. So be patient. Once it is dry, I sand the whole thing and start painting it. That's it in short.
I do the same for the other keyblades like Riku's Way to Dawn and Sora's Oblivion and Oathkeeper with just one difference. I don't use wooden sticks, foam board and paper-mâché. I just found myself a nice lady who makes me the bases from wood. So all I have to do is make real size sketches of the blades, give it to her and get back a wooden base. Everything else is the same as mentioned above. modelling clay, sanding, color.

III ~Commissions~
Q: Do you take commissions?
A: Costumes: I am sorry, I don't take costume commissions and I most likely never will.
Wigs: Come back in September and we might talk about it ^-^
Weapons: As well, I won't have time until September and I will have to talk to several people first.

Really? It's helpful? Wow ^^'' I just did it for myself, because I am asked these things so often, it's kinda annoying after writing it down so many times.
WIPs? Hm, I might do that once I come around working on things again. But since I am not in Germany right now, that will have to wait until September, too. I guess you are talking about the keyblades, aren't you? Because my WIPs for wigs wouldn't be very different to the wig tutorial.
Are you talking about that one ebay shop? I think it would be too expensive to send the wigs worldwide though. Wouldn't be worth it ^^'' I don't know much about international sellers though. Sorry.

you showed a link to a wig\'s tutorial on LJ where the author said she used Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray. instead of redoing every single spike like you said, couldn\'t we simply spray over with the glued spray she talked about? (it\'s really something i\'d like to know not a tip for you or something \'cause i\'m far too ignorant on this subject to do so >>\") thank you so much in advance

so that one thing makes you happy, many will make you sad.

oh and btw, what kind of ink do you use to paint the keyblades? (those to paint walls maybe? acrylics?)

Actually I don't know. I only can buy normal got2b glued, so I don't know if it's the same. Additionally I don't know if it would be enough to stop the spikes from splitting, because it would be just a thin layer. Really, I don't know ^^'' Sorry

I use acrylics to paint my keyblades and add one layer of brilliant varnish ^^

yep, it was really really helpful. I don't know alot about cosplaying, But it looks so fun to do. The conventions look really fun too, but the closet one here would be in New Brunswick. So I want to try to do a cosplay with my friends, they all love Kh too.
And yes, the weapon WIPs would be awsome, I can't seem to find any. But I did see some pictures on Kayleighs' asd Majins' website, those pictures gave me some ideas.
And thats ok, i will find some that are closer. If I can't find any, i'll look around town. Although I don't think there are any good ones here.
